At the opening of the meeting, the Mayor of Rhodes Mr Chatzidiakos kindly thanked all the attendees for their participation in the long-term mission of the Scholarships Foundation of the Dodecanese. In particular, he made a special reference to the Foundation’s Director for years, Mr. Miltiadis Logothetis, whom he described as “evergreen” with his unselfish and tireless contribution to the institution.
At the same time, the Chairman of the meeting, Mr. Hatzidiakos, stressed that it is an important resource for the Dodecanese Islands that the institution is working to link academic research to postgraduate level, by solving local issues.
Moreover, these are scholarships provided on the condition that the issue of Thesis concerns the Dodecanese area and that a copy of it will be delivered to be used by the local government or other local bodies.
At the same time, all attendees agreed that the role of the Foundation is particularly important in enhancing the efforts of the Dodecanese students to complete the postgraduate course of their studies, given the escalating economic crisis.
Then followed the evaluation of 14 student applications for the academic year 2016-2017 for the award of ten (10) biannual scholarships, with 1,000 € annually, with a main subject of study in the Dodecanese, which will be covered by the Chamber of Commerce (10,000 €), the food marketing company “Ioannis G. Pappou SA”(2,000 €) and the technical company “Stirixis SA” (€ 2,000) as well as the offer of free postgraduate studies at the University of Paphos.
At the end of the meeting the Mayor said “We invite all the Dodecanese community to contribute to the common goal of financial support for the Scholarship Foundation in order to continue to give the opportunity to our citizens – in the midst of economic crisis – to make their dreams come true” and also stressed the need to invest in Education as well as the ability of the Foundation to continue to provide services for the benefit of the citizens.
